Finn

Finbar is a 15.3 hh Appaloosa x Hanovarian.

Finbar was bought from a market as a small foal, too small to be away from his mum but he was rounded up and taken there with a number of other foals by a dealer.

Finbar lived in a quiet herd until he was 2 and then sold on to a new family. At 3 he developed a Herniated umbilical cord which had to be operated on and removed after this he got a strange infection that was similar to Strangles, the vets sent tests off they couldn’t work out what it was so he was kept away from other horses for 3 months to reduce the risk of infection, this was obviously hard for a young playful horse.

Finbar having finally recovered, escaped his field (with his friends in) and ate some farmers Lime that had recently been delivered. He couldn’t eat or swollow for 2 days and then proceeded to be very poorly for nearly 6 months, regularly abscessing and having terrible bouts of laminitis. His owners slept in the barn with him and picked fresh grass and herbs every day. The vets prognoses was not good but finally he started to recover and now at the age of 16 he has been healthy ever since.

Finbar is one of the youngest members of ARC but due to his illness as a youngster his joints are very stiff and his riding career ended very early. He is head of his herd and loves all attention but mostly belly scratches.
